Upcoming Deanery program

Ordained ministry is at different times satisfying, demanding, stretching and enriching. The calling never changes, but the contexts in which we exercise ministry does, and so we need to be constantly vigilant, to ensure we are the best we can be, looking to present ourselves before God “as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.” (2 Tim II:15). We need to invest regularly in our own development as priests and leaders of God’s church, so that we continue to grow, are able to serve God’s people well, and reflect the glory of God in our lives as well as our work.

Riverside is a program being assessed for the Reading deanery leadership programme designed to help refresh and refocus leadership in ministry which is one of our core goals in our mission action plan. This program originated in London through the London diocese. It was launched in 2013 and has included a wide range of participants.

The Riverside program combines applied teaching in various core areas of leadership along with reflective learning and the setting of personal goals in small groups. We are in discussion as to how we develop our training team to teach and to facilitate small groups, as the heart of the training focuses on a theology of leadership, handling conflict, building trust, engaging generation Y, developing and sustaining vision, leadership and culture, and work/life balance for those in leadership. Therefore, covering the challenges of church leadership today in the deanery within a framework that is shaped by Christ and his Kingdom, as well as drawing on best thinking from wider leadership expertise.

The Riverside program can be seen as a huge investment and as time well spent from the Reading deanery point of view, equipping you to better serve the Gospel and fulfil your most holy calling.

Commitment to attend the full programme is essential for all who wish to the deanery program. For more information speak to Revd Neil Warwick (Assistant area dean) for more information
